Things You Can Rent Instead of Buy For Your Wedding

When wedding planning there are some items that are commonly rented instead of purchased - a tuxedo, furniture, a tent. However, there are several reasons you may want to rent other items for your wedding as well: whether it’s to help with cost or to be more eco-friendly. In recent years, the wedding rental industry has grown tremendously, and it may surprise you to find that you can rent almost everything for your wedding day! Here are 5 items that you can rent on your wedding day that you may not have considered!

  1. Faux Flowers

Anyone who is planning a wedding will know that floral costs can add up fast. In fact, in 2021 the average wedding couple spent $2,300 on flowers for their wedding! While there are plenty of ways to help save money on your florals, a great option is going with realistic silk flowers. But what do you do with them after the wedding? If you want to save yourself the hassle of trying to sell all those faux flowers on Facebook Marketplace, a great option is to rent your flowers. There are tons of companies offering this service now with more seeming to pop up every day, but two of our favorites are Something Borrowed Blooms and Silk Stem Collective

2. Jewelry

For some people, wedding jewelry becomes a family heirloom, or something that they hold onto for special occasions. But for others, it’s just a statement piece that they won’t have use for after their big day. If you’re the latter, it’s absolutely worth considering renting jewelry for your wedding day. In fact, renting your jewelry may allow you to wear really fantastic designer pieces that you couldn’t have afforded otherwise! Switch is a great option for affordable rentals of designer jewelry, and there are so many other brands that you can rent statement jewelry from. We even recently found that Rent the Runway has started including bridal hair vines in their rental collection!

3. Wedding Dress

What could possibly be a more iconic “something borrowed” than your actual wedding gown? So many wedding dresses end up stuffed in a box collecting dust for the rest of their lives: why not be part of a system that is giving these gorgeous gowns many lives? Whether you just aren’t looking to shell out over $1,000 on a dress, or you’re trying to cut down on your carbon footprint, there are so many different styles of dresses you can rent for your wedding day. For minimalist gowns or elopement dresses, Rent the Runway has incredibly affordable options, but if you’re looking for a more traditional gown Dare and Dazzle or The Dress Outlet might be more up your alley.

4. Decor

In addition to flowers, you are probably considering some additional decorations for your wedding space. Whether that’s candles in glass cylinders, lanterns, or even disco balls - those items can add up fast and you likely won’t be placing them throughout your home after the wedding is over. Most cities have tons of local wedding decor rental businesses with all types of different items - one of our favorite trends right now is definitely neon signs! Not sure how to find these rental companies near you? Reach out to one of our planners for a brief vendor meeting and they can suggest some of their favorites.

5. Unique Interactive Items

If you’re looking for some activities for your guests other than just dancing, there are items you can rent for those as well! Some of our favorites include:

    1. Fete Fone: Audio guest book

    2. Instant Camera Rentals: Polaroid cameras

    3. Triangle Lawn Games: Lawn games such as cornhole or giant Jenga

Bonus:

If you are DIYing a lot of your wedding items you HAVE to hear about Joann’s machine rentals. You can rent items like the Cricut by the hour at Joann’s stores so you don’t have to dish out $100+ for a machine you won’t ever use again! All you have to buy is the supplies you need to make your item and you’re ready to go! This is also awesome if you have a bachelorette party coming up and want to make some cute customized items but don’t have a Cricut of your own!

Buying items for your wedding takes a lot of money, a lot of storage space, and a big toll on the environment! Choosing to rent some or all of your wedding items can really help to take some of that stress off of your shoulders. Did you rent any items that we haven’t mentioned here?
