How to Schedule Time with your Spouse on your Wedding Day

WEDDING PLANNING TIPS | WEDDING TIMELINE GUIDE | PRIVATE FIRST DANCE

We’ve all heard it said a thousand times — your wedding day will go by incredibly fast. So many couples get caught up in the whirlwind of the wedding day that they realize they never had a moment alone with their spouse. While it’s important to spend time with your guests on your wedding day and thank everyone for coming, it’s a great idea to add in a quiet moment with your spouse on your wedding day to take it all in. Here are our five suggestions of how to schedule some private time with your spouse on your wedding day.

1. First Look

A First Look with your partner is becoming increasingly popular for a good reason. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a moment alone with your partner before the hustle and bustle of the wedding day really begin. It’s a great option for couples who may be nervous about being the center of attention and allows you to fully experience the emotions of seeing your partner for the first time on your wedding day without everyone’s eyes on you.

2. Cocktail “Hour”

After your ceremony, you will most likely be whisked away by your photographer to take photos with your wedding party and family while everyone else enjoys cocktail hour. I recommend talking to your team in advance to let them know that you would like to set aside at least 15 minutes after photos for a private cocktail “hour” with your partner. Have your caterer and bartender set up a table with a sampling of your cocktail hour food and your favorite drink, so you not only get to enjoy a moment with your partner but also can get some food in your system and taste the delicious menu you picked out!

3. First Dance

If a private dining moment doesn’t interest you, you can use the end of your cocktail hour as a chance to sneak into your reception space for a private first dance! Again, let your team know about this in advance, so your DJ and decor are ready for you! This is a great option for couples who may be nervous about dancing in front of their guests.

4. Dinner

So many couples look back on their wedding day and say, “I didn’t even get a chance to eat”! Don’t let this be you! Especially if you’re drinking, you need to make sure to eat. Plus, you paid good money for your food so you should enjoy it! A great way to make sure you get uninterrupted time to eat AND private time with your spouse is to ask for your sweetheart table to be placed in a separate room. Your guests will all be eating at the same time as you, so no one should be bothered by your absence, and it’s a great time to catch up with your partner while making sure you get some food.

5. Last Dance

If you and your partner are both absolute party people and can’t imagine a single moment away from your friends and family on your wedding day this is the perfect solution. Ask your DJ to stop the music a half hour before your required exit time, and if you have shuttles for your guests, make sure they arrive right around that time. Have your coordinator usher everyone out of the reception space and hang back with your partner for a private last dance of the night.

Wedding days are all about celebrating your love with your family and friends — but don’t forget the person you’re marrying! The day will absolutely fly by, so make sure you add private time with your partner to your wedding day timeline. Whether it’s grabbing a bite to eat, or sharing a private dance, you’ll be glad you did it.
