Your wedding is a week away and there’s a storm in the forecast. What do you do?

While most of us have our fingers crossed for clear skies on our wedding day, some people are dealt a less-than-perfect hand. Rain on your wedding day is good luck, but it doesn’t always feel like it. Thankfully, just a few steps can help pivot your wedding to accommodate for the weather, without compromising beauty! Keep reading to make sure you have the perfect rain plan for your big day.

Have a Plan B

If any part of your wedding will be outdoors, you should have a plan B from the start. Outdoor cocktail hours should have an option for a tent or secondary location, and outdoor ceremonies should be able to move inside, even if that means holding the ceremony in the reception space while your guests are sitting at their tables. Most venues have a plan B built-in - after all, they host dozens of weddings every year. Just make sure you discuss this option with your venue coordinator well ahead of time so there are no surprises right before the wedding.

One portion of the day that a lot of couples forget to have a plan B for is taking photos. Most couples prefer outdoor wedding photos, and the rain can put a huge damper on that! While it’s totally possible to take gorgeous photos under a clear umbrella, you should try to think of some alternative locations in case the weather gets too hazardous. Some of my favorite indoor wedding photo locations include greenhouses and art museums!

Items to Purchase, Rent, or Borrow

Thankfully, most of the changes that come with a rainy forecast on your wedding day are decisions and not last-minute purchases. However, there are a few things that I would recommend grabbing. If you still plan to take outdoor photos, definitely grab at least two clear umbrellas, and even better if you can buy enough for your whole wedding party! I’d also highly recommend grabbing a bunch of heel stoppers. They’ll save anyone wearing heels from sinking into the wet grass and soft dirt!

Talk to Your Hair & Makeup Artists

Even if you stay out of the rain all day, humidity can throw a curveball into your wedding day. I would definitely chat with your hair and makeup artists about your concerns. Even if you’ve done a trial, they don’t know your hair and skin quite like you do. Let them know if you’re worried about frizz, curls falling, extra dewiness, or anything else that might interfere with your perfect photos.

Having to adjust your wedding plans to accommodate for rain is never ideal, but it doesn’t have to be a stressful experience! With a few small adjustments and decisions, your wedding day can be just as beautiful as you had planned, regardless of the weather.
