Get Unready With Me: After Your Wedding

WEDDING SKINCARE | HOW TO NOT BE HUNGOVER AFTER YOUR WEDDING | WEDDING PLANNING TIPS

You’ve had a long day of celebration and partying and you and your brand-new spouse have made it back to the hotel. But you have to say goodbye to Grandma in the morning and you get the feeling that tomorrow is going to be rough. How can you prepare for an easy nighttime routine on your wedding night to help avoid feeling awful the day after? If you’re someone who is committed to taking a full shower and washing your hair on your wedding night, kudos to you. But for those of us who need a little bit of a simpler routine - we’ve got the perfect list for you!

Wedding night tips

Hang up your dress.

Don’t just throw your dress on the floor! It’s probably one of the most expensive things you own, so do yourself a favor and hang it up in the hotel closet. You’ll thank yourself in the morning when it’s not a dirty crumpled ball.

Remove false lashes.

If you plan on cleaning and wearing strip lashes again you can save them, or else just toss them in the trash. You don’t want to wake up in the morning with one on your pillowcase and think it’s a spider (we say this from personal experience).

Wash your face.

Make sure you pack real face wash on your wedding night, not just makeup wipes! If you’re not used to full-coverage makeup, just be aware it might take two washes to get it completely off. And if you prefer a separate eye-makeup remover, go in with that as well to get off all that eyeliner and eyelash glue.

Moisturize!

You’ve probably had plenty to drink on your wedding night, and that means you’re dehydrated. Do your skin a favor and make sure you use a nighttime moisturizer, and go ahead in with your normal evening skincare.

Take out all the bobby pins and hair ties.

This is where your new spouse can come in handy! If you have an updo on your wedding day, you’ll be shocked to see how many bobby pins come out. Have your partner help sift through your hair to remove all of the bobby pins and elastics so you can sleep comfortably.

Brush your hair.

This step is crucial if you have hair that’s prone to knot and tangle. You’ve likely had your hair twisted, braided, and hair sprayed heavily, which could lead to a real disaster in the morning if not properly taken care of. I highly recommend taking the time to very gently brush out your hair, starting at the ends. Again, this can be a great bonding moment for you and your partner! Once it’s brushed out, you can put it in a loose braid, bun, or bonnet for the night, before washing it in the morning.

Have a light snack.

If you didn’t include a late-night snack in your wedding reception, you’ll probably want to have something small in the room for you to eat. Whether that’s some chicken nuggets or just crackers, you don’t want to go to bed on an empty stomach if you’ve been drinking.

Drink water.

Like we said before, if you plan to drink on your wedding night, you’ll probably be dehydrated. Drink lots of water before bed to avoid a hangover - or even better, coconut water or liquid IV for electrolytes. Combine that with some antacids and an anti-inflammatory like Advil, and you should be able to avoid any tummy or head pain in the morning.

Your wedding is one of the biggest parties you’ll ever throw - and it can take quite a toll on your body. If you want to wake up the day after your wedding feeling your absolute best, make sure you follow the tips we’ve outlined above!
